Sakya Dokho Choling was founded by Tulku Nyima in 2003. Tulku Nyima was serving as a "Visiting Professor" and advisor on Tibetan religious literature at the University of Virginia at Charlottesville. While there, Tulku Nyima met His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche, a highly recognized, reincarnate Lama in the Drikung Kagyu tradition. Tulku Nyima and His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche had both studied under the great Master Khenpo Munsel. In a selfless act, Garchen Rinpoche publicly introduced Tulku Nyima and encouraged his students to receive teachings from Tulku Nyima.
During his travels in 2003, Tulku Nyima met His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya Rinpoche at the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism in Seattle, WA. Tulku Nyima also met with His Holiness Sakya Trizin, the Head of the Sakya Order. Both Sakya leaders wrote letters of endorsement for Tulku Nyima. A copy of the letter from His Holiness Sakya Trizin is available here.

We are a small group of dedicated students who are committed to the non-sectarian practice of Tibetan Buddhism espoused by Tulku Nyima. Our preliminary practice is the Longchen Nyingthig ngondro and a Chenrezig sadhana that Tulku Nyima brought to America specifically to provide a comprehensive sadhana for busy Western students of Buddhism.
